BAM creates beautiful activewear and essentials from soft and sustainable bamboo fabrics.

The BAM Story

The story of BAM begins in the wilderness of Greenland, on a man-haul expedition with a team of elite Gurkhas, where founder David was inspired to build a business that had protecting this beautiful natural world at its heart.

BAM and Sustainability: Why Bamboo?

BAM's fabrics are made of bamboo, for good reason.

Bamboo grasses absorb 5x the CO² from the air compared to the equivalent amount of hardwood trees, and 2/3 of the carbon is stored in the soil and root system, which unlike cotton and trees, isn't dug up when the bamboo is harvested, so that CO² stays in the ground.

Bamboo doesn't need the same pesticides as cotton, avoiding damage to soil health and surrounding ecosystems. It's also 3x more absorbent than cotton, keeping you dry and comfortable, has a softer and more luxurious feel, and does a better job at controlling temperature during exercise.

Why they're a Beagle Eco Hero

BAM has set high expectations for what a sustainable brand can and should be. BAM looks beyond carbon negative, and is working towards Impact Positive. They've set ambitious goals- for zero waste to landfill, zero pollution, and zero wasted water, all by 2030. This applies to every single process from bamboo growing to manufacturing, to the full lifecycle of the clothes and what happens when they are recycled. It's a matter of proving that a clothing company can have an ultimately positive impact.

They've sent their sustainability expert Merryn around the world to visit every stage of their manufacturing process, all the way to the source of the bamboo, and you can find all of the details of her journey here. They've shown that their suppliers produce, harvest, and manufacture fabric sustainably, using land unsuitable for other agriculture and maintaining strict safety standards.

They are also very open about their factories and supply chain, and are Fair Wear Foundation members. Fair Wear is a third-party assessor who monitors their garment factories independently according to the International Labour Organisation convention on human rights. We're truly impressed by their commitment to transparency, ethics, and sustainability at all levels of their supply chain and that's part of what makes them a Beagle Eco-Hero.
