When we look back on the top themes of 2020, it seems inevitable that ‘handwashing’ will be one of them. Here at The Beagle Button we’re torn between songs to hum to ensure we’re hitting that all important 20 seconds of washing. The current leader of our internal poll is the chorus of Mr Brightside. With this increased focus on washing hands, we’ve compiled a list of our favourite eco-friendly, sustainable soaps. Remember, small changes can have a big impact, so why not start with washing your hands!
Beco Organic Soap Bar
Beco for us stands out to us as they really take a step further in thinking about how their brand can support people and the planet. As well as using earth friendly ingredients and packaging, they provide jobs for visually impaired, disabled or disadvantaged workers, who make up 80% of their workforce across the UK.
The brand produce all their soap within the UK using organic and certified ingredients, including sustainable palm oil to create a hypoallergenic soap, free from parabens, animal testing and other nasties. Their bottled soap also saves a massive 88 litres of water in comparison to a standard liquid soap! The honey blossom fragrance stands out as a favourite of our team.
By buying Beco soap you’re not only helping the environment, but buying into an all-inclusive, non-profit organisation, determined to make the world a better place, one bar of soap at a time.
Delphis Recycled Bottle Hand Soap
We’ve all seen the shocking statistics on the consumption of plastic bottled based goods. Delphis are doing something to combat this, giving a second life to single-use plastics, reusing them to form their 100% recycled bottles.
Delphis is also the UK’s leading manufacturer of ecological cleaning products, made from plant-derived renewable and sustainable resources, and never tested on animals. Their soap is pH balanced (5.7) and produces a luxury creamy lather, removing ingrained dirty and fully conditioning.
We recommend Delphis if you’re not a fan of soap bars, but still want to switch your liquid soap to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly option.
Haeckles Exfoliating Seaweed Block
Haeckles is a skincare brand with a difference, using seaweed to produce high quality, eco-friendly products, and educating people on the health-giving properties of ingredients from the sea. Their soap is vegan friendly and made from a vegetable based formula containing ingredients like coriander, peppercorn, aloe vera and tea tree, to naturally cleanse and hydrate the body.
Seaweed is a natural alternative to chemically derived, synthetic ingredients and fragrances often present in soaps. It also makes the perfect ingredient in skin care products as it is rich in vitamins, minerals and amino acids, as well as being naturally anti-bacterial, not to mention all the seaweed used by the brand is sustainably and locally harvested in Margate.
Haeckles also runs local schemes such as the Rubbish for Product scheme, where if you bring in a bag of rubbish collected from the beach, they’ll give you a free product, along with a discount when you return the empty product to them. So you can contribute to cleaner beaches as well as cleaner hands! And if you live near Margate this is the perfect opportunity to give back to the local environment and be rewarded too.
We recommend Haeckles seaweed soap not only for their use of high quality eco-friendly ingredients, but their transparent supply chain too.
