Interview with Georgina Wilson-Powell - her eco-piphany

Finding good, genuinely sustainable alternatives can be hard so we built The Beagle Button to make it easier and quicker. Add Beagle to your browser, sit back and shop as normal. We'll do the rest.

We're a sustainability tech start-up in its Beta stage building a tool to help you shop more sustainably online. Whether it's women-run, vegan, ethically sourced or any other of our carefully selected metrics, we'll find you recommendations for better alternatives when you shop online. We want to make sustainability accessible and affordable for everyday items, from furniture to shoes.

For our eco-piphany series, we sit down with some of the most inspirational eco-warriors driving the sustainable revolution. We were lucky enough to chat to Georgina Wilson-Powel, travel editor turned founder and editor of sustainable lifestyle magazine, Pebble.

Georgina Wilson-Powell

Georgina's eco-piphany was sparked when she noticed the detrimental impact of plastic pollution in the most beautiful and remote parts of the world.

This led to the realisation about the impact of our individual actions and ultimately to her quitting her job as a jet-setting travel writer. In 2016, she launched Pebble magazine a stylish platform for sustainable living that has since expanded into events like Pebblefest and Futurefest. Pebble readers are given guidance and help to lead a more sustainable life, including how to use less plastic, increasing awareness of consumption and decreasing their carbon footprint.

I know it's hard, bloody hard sometimes to do the greenest thing, even if you have the willpower, way to do it and the money.

When asked about her top sustainable swaps, Georgina brought to light one of Beagle's top cleaning picks, Seep. They are 100% compostable and plastic-free cleaning tools for your house - their products are made from renewable resources and are longer-lasting!

Almost every beauty or skincare product has a more sustainable alternative! If you find you don't have the time to look for alternatives, we're here to help! The Beagle Button is here to sniff out better eco-alternatives that you don't have the time or patience to vet. Have you read our blog post on our favourite brands to transform your morning routine into a sustainable one?

In the interview, Georgina also mentions the eco-cleaning revolution where using existing kitchen items (such as fruit and veg) is just as effective while also being more planet and wallet-friendly than buying new plastic bottles of cleaning solutions! She also mentions eco bathroom swaps which Beagle are a big fan of! Check these out if you're interested : a reusable razor and shaving kit, a plastic-free shampoo bar, plastic-free conditioning hair mask, certified organic children's toothpaste, natural and vegan beard oil.

This girl boss has also written a book called "Is it really green?". In this book, you'll find helpful tips and answers to your everyday dilemmas! The contents of this book were printed on recycled paper and printed locally (to reduce air miles) in black and white to reduce printing and inks!

Our interview with Georgina is the seventh in our series of eco-piphanies, stay tuned to hear more about other Futurefests still to be held! Futurefest is an online event that celebrates and explores solutions to help shape our future into a sustainable one. Talks, education and podcast stations are erected for anyone interested - I bet you wish you attended the last one in November!

It hasn't changed all at once, it's an ongoing journey.

Georgina also has a PebblePodcast that you can listen to which explores ethical fashion, eco travel and sustainable living! Don't miss out and join the Pebble community on Facebook where you can ask questions, share tips, eco-wins, new brands, #EverydayActivism and anything else you'd like to chat about.

In this series we plan to ask each interviewee what their eco-piphany was. How did that moment change their life? And what is their top sustainability swap. We look forward to sharing other interviews and blog posts from this series soon. The team at Beagle hopes you're hanging in there for now with the promise of (hopefully) a more sociable but safe summer!

We're growing everyday, and hope to pave the way for anyone trying to lead a more sustainable lifestyle. Feel free to check out our Instagram, Facebook and Twitter pages - don't forget to sign up online for the Beagle Button.

We are currently in the beta phase of our product launch, so if you install our browser extension please let us know if you stumble upon something you think could be improved!
