Certified B Corporations are a new kind of business that balance purpose and profit. We are legally required to consider the impact of our decisions on our workforce, customers, suppliers, community and the environment. The process of joining was intense, but also inspiring as it gave us an opportunity to ensure our ethical values are reflected in all aspects of our business.
The certification is a genuinely rigorous process, covering our internal culture, policies and external activities to assess our commitment to social and environmental values. We’ve never wanted to be a business that just talked the talk. For us, being a sustainable business means you’ve got to walk the walk. To that end, B Corp requires evidence to support every claim.
Fighting Greenwashing ♻️
There are no silver bullets to combat greenwashing. Certifications are an important part of the puzzle. Becoming a B Corp is both a commitment to better business practices and a tool for accountability. Any brand can label their product as “eco,” “green” or “natural,” but there are very few ways of enforcing or regulating those claims. B Lab, (the non-profit who administer the verification process) helps prevent greenwashing by ensuring that the brands they certify are actually making decisions that are good for people and planet. To transition our economy to a more sustainable, inclusive model that works for everyone we need to hold businesses accountable.
